Association of British Bookmakers Senior Executive Tom Kenny has been appointed a Director of the Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS), the national accreditation system for proof-of-age card schemes. The distinctive PASS hologram is carried by all PASS-accredited cards as the hallmark of a genuine proof-of-age card.
Kenny joins representatives of the tobacco, alcohol and other age-restricted retail sectors on the PASS Board.
“PASS empowers young people by enabling them to prove their age without having to take their passport, driving licence or birth certificate with them when they’re out and about,” he said.
“At the same time the PASS hologram empowers betting shop and other retail staff by enabling them to distinguish a genuine card from the many fakes out there.”
“The ABB and our members are committed to work to protect children and young people. The results of independent testing show that betting shops are nowadays just as likely as other retailers to ask young-looking people for proof of age. But it’s an on-going effort and I’m sure that my joining the Board of PASS will enable bookmakers to learn from other retail sectors, and they from us.”
Young people can get hold of PASS accredited cards from a number of the card issuers. All cards that are PASS accredited carry the distinctive PASS logo in a hologram.
